Female Pattern Baldness Treatments

As surprising as it may sound, about one third of all women are looking for female pattern baldness treatments. Even more, about two thirds of postmenopausal women are affected by the problem. Hair loss is usually a greater problem for women than for men because socially it is less acceptable.

Female Pattern Baldness Treatments

At the beginning the drug has been used for high blood pressure, but the customers noticed that it makes their hair grow. According to studies, a 2% minoxidil solution can help with the bald patches if it is applied directly on the scalp. The truth is that the specialists don’t really know how the drug works.

No magic

Although minoxidil can be used as a remedy for female pattern baldness, don’t forget that it’s not a magical solution. It can’t always help women grow back all of their hair. It also takes long for the drug to act, of at least 2 months, but you might have to wait for up to 6 months for the first signs to appear.

How to use?

Before using the treatment, make sure that the scalp is dry and clean. Apply the solution on the affected areas of the scalp twice a day. Then gently massage the scalp to make sure that the treatment reaches the hair follicles. Allow the hair to air dry and wash your hands thoroughly.

Some women find that the female pattern baldness remedy leaves their scalp irritated and dry. This is known as contact dermatitis and it isn’t caused by minoxidil, but by the alcohol in the solution. The 5% solution comes in a foam form that contains less alcohol than the 2% solution.

Side effects

Although this one of the female pattern baldness treatments is safe, it could have some side effects besides contact dermatitis. In some cases the new hair can have a different color and texture than the rest of the hair. Another risk is having hair grown in other places as well, like the chin and the forehead.

In some cases the cure for female pattern baldness involves using spironolactone and finasteride. Although there is some evidence that these are efficient, they aren’t approved treatments. Some of the studies show that spironolactone may turn out to be efficient if minoxidil doesn’t work.

You don’t have to worry about baldness because the female pattern baldness treatments usually do their jobs and solve the problem.
